This seems like a fair compromise. Read-only is incredibly limited but I guess that’s the point since making a read-only site is a starting point.

Alas, web developers as a species hate doing their jobs so well have to stick with requiring JavaScript to render text on a webpage, since it was so hard for CERN to figure out in 1993.
