I Hope The Nothing Phone Does Well

From the creator of OnePlus comes Nothing, a brand that aims to make tech exciting again. Not sure why he didn’t do that at OnePlus, but it’ll be interesting to see where this goes.

They’re releasing the phone (1) which while it definitely doesn’t look like an iPhone 12, it comes with a cool looking back which exposes internals as well as a light display.

I read from the book the Hardware Hacker that this sort of tinkering is really common in China even though some might call them ripoffs. I should visit Shenzhen some day…

I want this phone to exist in a wide marketplace of different offerings from various companies. I want devices that exist to have a bit of character, not just be a minimal slab of glass with a generic camera square at the back. I think there should be loads of smaller niche devices that cater more towards certain markets or tastes. Because if everything is the same, then it’s just boring.

I hope this sort of quirkiness goes a long way in encouraging more like it.
