Know My Blog

Published:

I was surfing the web and saw a silly webpage containing a Chipotle order by shellsharks. I made my own and decided to check out Mr Shark’s site and notice he wrote a “get to know my blog” blog post as part of a trend.

I cruised through some other people doing this trend and I thought why shouldn’t I do this too, so here we go!

1. Why did you make this blog in the first place?

Money.

Initially as a way of building a “personal brand” so I could get internships and even jobs. No one really looked at it except for two places.

Then I wanted to make money from blogging which I did, just not here.

Now it’s just a fidget toy/worry stone/coping mechanism to make me forget about my anxiety. As I’m writing this, I forgot that I’ve answered this very question before once. Well, it’s more like answering why I keep doing this even though nobody gives a shit, but that’s similar.

What platform do you use and why?

I use Hugo because it’s incredibly fast, comes with batteries like built-ins for asset management, render hooks and all. I also have Stockholm syndrome since I’ve used it for so long.

Have you blogged on other platforms?

Yes, Tumblr, WordPress.com, Jekyll, and Dev.to.

How do you write blog posts

I write Markdown files either on my phone with Taio or on my computer with VS Code.

When am I most inspired to write

It’s rather sinusoidal. Sometimes I want to write a lot and other times I’d rather fuck around on YouTube.

Do you publish immediately after writing, or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?

I used to publish though I now schedule posts way ahead of time so it looks like I’m writing daily 😼. Oftentimes I straight up forget I wrote a whole ass post and it rots in my drafts folder for months.

What’s your favourite post on your blog?

I really don’t know. Maybe the post on Scunthorpe Sans where I made the page use the font that you can play with. Honestly, it’s hard for me to say what my favorite post was.

Any future plans for your blog?

Plenty. Here’s a few things I want to do:

  • add search,
  • allow links indexing,
  • move in all of my old content and set up permanent redirects,
  • publish some of the many drafts lying around,
  • improve image processing,
  • and so much more.

At some point I just have to pause site development do I can move on with life.

Who’s Next?

Doubt they’ll see this, but it’d be cool if the following do this:

Who’s Already Done This

  • The Hive
  • Kevin
  • Brandon
  • Ava started this trend and links to others who’ve also done this so I can stop now.
  • but I can’t end without adding Jeremy Keith who did this after I wrote the previous line.
