The USB C Apple Pencil Seems Like An Expensive Version of The Cheapo Drawing Styluses

Published:

Updates

  • I bought one of the cheapo stylyses and while it has poor build quality, the drawing is pretty good. Doubt it’s Apple Pencil good though.

I noticed that Apple released a new Apple Pencil which charges via USB C for $80. What it misses compared to the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil is:

  • wireless charging (though it magnetically attaches to the top),
  • pressure sensitivity,
  • the double tap gesture, and
  • engraving.

Given that it’s $50 less, missing out on those features is fine, especially since it seems marketed more towards writing and scribbling than art. Thing is, there are a lot of cheapo drawing styluses (styli?) which behave similarly and cost $25.

You could argue the Apple Pencil has an amazing drawing experience, which it does. Thing is, those cheapo styluses also have a great drawing experience with identical latency.

I would like to see the reviews and comparisons once it comes out but for now I’ll get one of the cheapo versions because I’m broke they’re cheaper and just as good.
