Web Pages Must Live Forever

Published:

I was writing on how information architecture is hard. Given how hard it is, I settled on setting up redirects when I figure it out. That’s because cool URLs don’t change. In short, a link should always go somewhere since there’s little reason for it to change as the owner of the domain controls the site.

I searched for the article and noticed the linked article from NN Group which gives more reasons and ways to go about it. Old content is valuable (I mean, I’m reading it 24 years later!) so be sure to spend a little time maintaining it and bringing it up to scratch1 and mentioning dates. It’s always annoying how some sites try to keep their out of information “fresh” by removing the published date. At least add a reminder for what changes you made!

Funny enough, this article was linked in the W3 style guide I was looking for.
